Robert Edward Auctions Debuts 2024 with Historic Baseball Memorabilia and Rare Collectibles

Robert Edward Auctions is starting off the new year with a bang, presenting an extraordinary and comprehensive Encore event that showcases an impressive collection of sports memorabilia. With nearly 3,700 lots, this auction is one of the largest and most diverse in recent memory, spanning over 180 years of sports history. Paired with a touch of wit and charm, each item on display captures the essence of baseball’s rich heritage like a perfectly pitched curveball.

One standout piece from this auction is a signed receipt from none other than Alexander Cartwright, a pioneer in the world of baseball. Dating back to 1842, this unique item not only stands the test of time but also represents a direct link to the sport’s early days. It’s a true treasure for any passionate collector and a rare glimpse into the origins of America’s favorite pastime.

Moving forward in time, the auction also boasts a remarkably rare find from the late 19th century: the 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco John Clarkson “Throwing” card. Graded EX 5 by PSA, this card is the only known PSA-graded example featuring the Hall of Fame pitcher and outfielder. Collectors will undoubtedly be competing fiercely to add this exceptional rarity to their collections.

Harry Wright, a prominent figure in baseball history, takes the spotlight with his personal scorecard from a June 22, 1883 game between Philadelphia and the Providence Grays. With both pencil and blue ink markings, this one-of-a-kind item showcases Wright’s signature, earning a high grading of 9 from PSA. The scorecard is not only a fascinating piece of memorabilia but also an ode to the early days of professional baseball.

Kicking off the auction is the legendary SGC 1.5 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, igniting the excitement for the vast array of Mantle items available. Collectors will also find over 250 autographed items, many of which feature iconic baseball figures from the past. From Babe Ruth to Ty Cobb, the collection offers a wide selection of signed items sure to satisfy collectors of all types.

Brian Dwyer, President of REA, expressed his excitement for this Encore Auction, highlighting it as one of the company’s strongest to date. He noted the wide range of iconic cards available in various grades, as well as the extensive selection of signed items that cater to collectors’ preferences.

Aside from the aforementioned gems, REA’s January Auction also boasts other remarkable pieces, such as a 1914 E145 Cracker Jack #37 Grover Alexander SGC VG 3 card, a 1986 Topps Football #374 Steve Young Rookie SGC GEM MINT 10 card, a Babe Ruth cut signature, a 1938 Lou Gehrig signed postcard, a 1924 Walter Johnson signed album page, and a 1939 Honus Wagner signed Baseball Centennial First-Day Cover. The auction also features a trio of 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron rookie cards, a 1957 Topps Football #138 Johnny Unitas Rookie BVG NM-MT 8 card, and early Michael Jordan cards, among others.

For those interested in signed checks, the auction includes checks signed by Jackie Robinson, Ty Cobb, and Roberto Clemente. T206 enthusiasts will be delighted to find over 720 options, including rare advertising backs and cards featuring the elusive Carolina Brights backs.

As is customary with REA’s Encore Auctions, all items start with a bid of $10, ensuring that collectors of all budgets can participate. Bidding for this extraordinary and historic collection is now open on the company’s website and will run through January 21. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of baseball history and rare memorabilia that will make any collection shine like a grand slam under the summer sun.
