Parlay at Graybo’s: Sports Bar Meets Card Shop

Richmond, Virginia has become home to a groundbreaking establishment that seamlessly blends the excitement of a sports bar with the allure of a sports card shop. Parlay at Graybo’s, nestled in the vibrant Scott’s Addition neighborhood, offers a revolutionary setting where sports enthusiasts and collectors can revel in a one-of-a-kind experience.

Conceived by Duke Dodson, Ryan Fitz, and Gray “Graybo” Burnette, Parlay at Graybo’s is more than just a place to watch the game. It is a communal haven where patrons can relish the thrill of unboxing new card packs, engage in live card breaks, catch sports action on large screens, and savor delectable meals and drinks all under one roof. The venue made its grand debut on May 18 amidst fanfare, hosting a viewing party for the Preakness Stakes alongside live music and special festivities.

Taking over the former space of the Circuit Arcade Bar on 3117 W. Leigh Street, Parlay at Graybo’s ingeniously connects the sports bar and card shop through a breezeway accented with a miniature putting green, elevating the interactive nature of the establishment to new heights.

The masterminds behind Parlay at Graybo’s bring a wealth of experience and a fervent love for the sports card industry. Duke Dodson, a seasoned card collector who reignited his passion in 2021, boasts a strong business and finance background, lending his expertise from the realm of Richmond real estate to this innovative venture. Gray Burnette, a history buff and former educator, shifted gears post-pandemic to channel his energies into this new pursuit. Ryan Fitz, with a background in property management and technology, injects a modern touch to the business, emphasizing customer engagement and experience.

Inspired by their nostalgic memories of collecting cards in their youth, the trio envisioned a space that caters to both children and adults, providing a sophisticated yet welcoming environment for all. Thus, the original concept of a modest sports card shop blossomed into a sprawling venue that seamlessly melds the world of sports and collectibles.

With Parlay at Graybo’s unveiling an expanded layout, including a 3,300-square-foot sports bar and a 2,200-square-foot card shop, the venue is poised to attract a surge in foot traffic, capitalizing on its strategic location within an entertainment hub. Noteworthy features like live card breaks, where patrons can partake or observe the action from the bar, infuse an extra layer of thrill akin to a game day experience. The founders nurture a vibrant collector community through avenues such as their eBay store, a weekly podcast, and online live breaks, fostering engagement both locally and beyond.

Ryan Fitz emphasizes the burgeoning collector base in the Richmond area, spanning from casual hobbyists to seasoned investors, underscoring Parlay at Graybo’s as an inclusive and dynamic space for all. The fortuitous acquisition of the property post-Circuit’s closure presented Dodson with the perfect opportunity to realize this innovative vision, merging the spirit of a sports bar with the essence of a card shop.

Trailblazing in its fusion of sports entertainment and collectibles, Parlay at Graybo’s promises a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that will magnetize sports aficionados and card enthusiasts alike. By offering a unique and immersive experience that merges the worlds of sports, cards, food, and fun, this groundbreaking venue is set to redefine the landscape of fan experiences in Richmond and beyond.
