Heritage Auctions’ Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction Spectacular

Heritage Auctions will be showcasing an extraordinary collection of rare and highly coveted baseball cards in their upcoming Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction on July 12-13. This event promises to be a goldmine for collectors with a selection that includes a mint-condition 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson card, a gem-mint Michael Jordan Fleer rookie card, and a gem-mint chrome rookie card signed by a young Bryce Harper.

Adding to the excitement are sealed packs, boxes, and cases ready to be explored for hidden gems, making it a must-see event for sports memorabilia enthusiasts. Notable items like signed Shohei Ohtani cards and top-tier Ty Cobb tobacco cards contribute to the allure of this summer auction. The highlight reel even includes Babe Ruth’s iconic “Called Shot” jersey.

A standout feature of the auction is a unique collection of 1959 baseball cards originally stapled to containers of Canadian cookies. These cards, extremely rare with only 69 in the PSA population report, include 37 cards in this event. Featuring legendary players like Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Yogi Berra, these cards hold historical significance in the world of sports memorabilia.

The Dad’s Cookies cards were produced by Exhibits Supply Company in 1959 as promotional items stapled to bags and boxes of cookies. Each card bore a message from their Scottish mascot “Sandy,” encouraging kids to collect all 64 “autographed” pictures of baseball stars. The rarity of these cards is a result of their unique distribution method and limited surviving examples, making them highly sought after by collectors.

Additionally, the auction boasts two of the most prized Ty Cobb T206 cards from the early 1900s. The El Principe de Gales Ty Cobb, graded PSA NM 7, is exceptionally rare with only one known example featuring the El Principe de Gales advertisement on the back. The American Beauty Portrait-Red Cobb, graded PSA EX-MT 6, stands out as the highest-graded example of its kind, making them valuable additions to any collection.

For those seeking a trip down memory lane, the auction offers sealed boxes and cases like the 1970 Topps Baseball Wax Box containing 24 unopened packs potentially revealing cards of baseball legends such as Carl Yastrzemski, Roberto Clemente, and Tom Seaver. These items carry both nostalgic value and the promise of unearthing hidden treasures, embodying the essence of time frozen in childhood.

Newer boxes and cases also make an appearance, like the 2015 Upper Deck Hockey Series 1 Hobby Unopened Case with 12 boxes or the 2020 Panini Flawless Football Factory Sealed Case with two boxes. The allure of finding rare cards like a Connor McDavid rookie card or a gem-mint rookie patch auto adds an extra layer of excitement for collectors eager to discover the unexpected.

Heritage Auctions’ Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction is gearing up to be an unforgettable event for sports memorabilia aficionados, offering a unique chance to acquire some of the rarest and most valuable cards in existence. With a mix of iconic names, hidden treasures, and the thrill of discovery, this auction is a haven for collectors looking to expand their prized collections with pieces of sporting history.
